When a certain plot becomes very popular, fans could not get enough of it. A series of fiction of the same plots are reproduced to satisfy market needs.
I don’t have problems with this phenomenon unless they keep doing it over a too long period of time. It happens now and then and over this current decade it’s no exception.
One of them is drama about the nazi. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t like nazi in any way and I believe we should be reminded from time to time about this tragic event so that it does not happen again. But when there are too many of these fictions, it’s overwhelming and less effective or even backfired. Recent examples of them are The Pianist, The Book Thief, The boy in the striped pajamas, The girl with no name, The zookeeper’s wife, and many more.
The next group is drama about a person with some kind of serious illness, particularly mental ones or personality disorders. Examples of them are The curious incident of the dogs in the night time, Silver linings play book, Still Alice, etc. They know that people in general have a deep sympathy with people of these issues, so they overuse these plots to catch people attentions to the point of insincerity.
The last category I can think of is novels about dystopias. For examples, Hunger games, Divergent, the maze runner, etc.
I already got bored with these three categories. I am dying for something different.
